An unnamed Championship side have seen a £1million+ bid rejected by League One outfit Bolton Wanderers for centre-forward Victor Adeboyejo ahead of the 11pm deadline.
The 26-year-old has been garnering interest all summer having impressed last season with 10 goals in 35 league appearances, aiding the club to reach the League One play-offs. He has previously had spells at Barnsley, Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers, Leyton Orient, Cambridge United and Chelsea’s academy amongst others.
The player has been linked to second-tier newcomers Oxford United in recent weeks, with the same journalist also claiming that Turkish side Goztepe are also considering a move after holding a long-term interest.
The Bolton News, who reported the seven-figure bid have not indicated if the offer was made by Oxford United or if another club have entered the race. However, the club will have to return with an improved package if they want to secure the talented forward before the window slams shut this evening.
Bolton are hoping they can push on from their play-off defeat and finally return to the second tier, Ian Evatt’s side have actually been one of the quieter third tier clubs this window, with just seven additions including Scott Arfield, John McAtee and Jay Matete amongst others. However, they face intense competition in what could prove to be a tight and competitive league roster.
Stockport County have already shown they have what it takes to compete at this level whilst big spenders Birmingham have placed a record £10million bid today for a striker, which will be higher than half of the league’s transfer budgets combined. Achieving automatic promotion may be a difficult task, but with a settled manager and a settled squad it could prove to be a beneficial factor as the season gets underway. It is unknown at this time whether the club will need to source a replacement should Adeboyejo leave today.
