Lincoln City appear well-equipped for the 25/26 campaign. Retaining core contributors like Reeco Hackett, Adam Jackson, Thomas Hamer, James Collins and Tom Bayliss as just a select few.
Coupled with new arrivals, there looks to be a promising season in the running.
Here are 3 players to keep a particular eye on.
James Collins
Lincoln grabbed Collins’ signature back in January 2025, completing the permanent signing of the experienced up-top striking force.
Now 34, the Lincoln City forward brings a wealth of experience from playing for numerous clubs. Some of which were Aston Villa (youth), Shrewsbury Town, Luton Town, Cardiff City, Derby County and also played internationally for the Republic of Ireland.
Since joining the Imps halfway through last season, Collins has made a damaging impact in front of goal. He scored an extremely respectable 10 goals in just 20 games, an excellent goal ratio which only top-level attackers can boast of.
He provided an immediate lift to the attack, something that was missing earlier in the 24/25 season, which was especially impressive given that he had minimal time to bed into the squad.
Focusing on goals scored so far in the new EFL League One season, double digits don’t seem too far off for the frontman. He has found the net four times in just seven games, six of which he started, proving that he’s a born goalscorer.
His ruthless streak in front of goal could well make all the difference in the Imps’ push for promotion to the EFL Championship, a clear reason why Collins could stand out above others in League One.
Freddie Draper
After impressing coaches during his two years in Lincoln’s Academy set-up, Draper went on to make his first professional debut in October 2021 against Sheffield Wednesday.
After a couple of successful loan spells, Draper now features consistently as a first-team player.
In terms of finding the net, the 21-year-old’s goal ratio in League One is moderate.
In the 24/25 season, the young attacker scored four goals in 38 league appearances, far below the expectations placed upon him after his return to the club.
Yet this may be a thing of the past, as Draper seems ready to wipe the slate clean. He has already scored two goals in seven League One matches, a ratio that, if he can keep it going, will see his goal count amount to much more in the new season.
If Draper maintains his work rate and sharpness, he surely will become a pivotal offensive contributor for Lincoln in the 25/26 campaign. His trajectory and the club’s backing suggest he is set for continued progress and is definitely a player to watch closely.
Tom Hamer
Tom Hamer, labelled by Lincoln City as a versatile defender, has slotted seamlessly into the defensive line.
The 25-year-old previously played for Burton Albion, making 147 appearances for the club and scoring nine goals and providing 17 assists, an impressive run for the Englishman.
Famous for his long throws, that function as if they were free-kicks or corners, Hamer is highly relied on.
His ability opens up a new attacking dimension, greatly benefiting Lincoln’s offensive play. This creates a real danger for other teams trying to defend.
Hamer’s mix of physicality, versatility and high energy makes him one of the most important signings Lincoln have made in recent years.
With his capability to angle towards both defensive and attacking avenues on the pitch, this will allow him to be a well-rounded player.
If he maintains his current form, Hamer could establish himself as one of the best defenders in the third tier.
