6ft 6in Goalkeeper Attracting Interest From League Two Clubs

League Two (1)

Free agent goalkeeper Max Dearnley is attracting interest from a host of League Two and Non-League clubs, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The towering 6ft, 6in goalkeeper became a free agent after being released by Buxton upon the expiration of his contract. The 25-year-old made 40 appearances last season between Buxton and loan club Chorley, keeping 10 clean sheets and only conceding 49 goals.

Now, according to the report; Morecambe, Walsall, Harrogate Town, Halifax Town and Gateshead are all looking at the shot-stopper as a potential addition this summer. He has also had previous spells with Penistone, Ossett United, Huddersfield B and Farsley.

A Solid Move For The EFL?

At 25 years old, the goalkeeper is still young, players in his position tend to develop later than their outfield counterparts as it requires a maturity and calmness between the sticks rather than just agility and reflexes. He has the height and has shown he can perform well in non-league, so with some development he can probably translate his performances to the EFL.

The Rule Of Three

Whilst I would certainly agree that Dearnley is attracting interest, and should be for the size and ability he has, I tend to work with a rule of three. If the news hits that a player is attracting interest, and it followed by a list of over three clubs, it does tend to lean towards an attempt to put more eyes on the player, rather than any firm interest. News like this only gets out one way, if someone wants it to be and you have to consider what could be the motive to put this kind of story out there. How often do you see stories such as this, and the player actually moves to one of the listed clubs? It rarely happens. I do hope the player does find a club, however, I would be surprised if it was one of the clubs that Pete O’Rourke has stated.
