AC Milan Sign Mexican International

AC Milan

AC Milan have completed the permanent signing of Mexican international Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord.

The Rossoneri announced the signing via a statement on the club’s website and have signed the 23-year-old for a reported fee of up to €35 million. The Mexican joins Milan on a deal which runs until the summer of 2029.

Gimenez departs Feyenoord with an impressive return of 65 goals in 103 appearances and was a part of their title-winning side under current Liverpool manager Arne Slot in 2023.

The striker attended yesterday’s Milan derby, watching from the stands as his new club drew 1-1 with bitter rivals Inter. He is now the second most expensive signing in Serie A this January, only beaten by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s €70m move from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain.

He becomes Milan’s second signing of the January window, following the arrival of Manchester City fullback Kyle Walker on loan.

How has Gimenez fared this season?

The Mexican international has had an impressive time in the Eredivisie and this campaign so far has been no exception.

He has scored 16 goals and recorded three assists in 19 matches in all competitions this season, including a brace against Bayern Munich in a 3-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League.

However, he has had a frustrating time with injuries this season and was out of action for close to two months will a thigh problem.

How will he benefit Milan?

The simple answer to how he will benefit Sergio Conceicao’s side is goals. However, Milan are getting much more than just a goalscorer.

Gimenez is a forward who is capable of holding up the ball and bringing others into play as well as being able to beat players with his quick feet and dribbling ability.

Additionally, the 23-year-old displays clever movement alongside a burning desire to get himself into fantastic goalscoring positions. When in these positions, Gimenez possesses a great deal of composure and quality.

This can be seen through his stats in front of goal this season. With seven goals scored from an xG of 7.26 this season, it is clear to see that he is extremely capable in front of goal.

Gimenez could potentially make his debut on Wednesday night as Milan face AS Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.
