Accrington Stanley have kept their squad intact this summer after avoiding relegation to the National League. However, they now reportedly face a battle to retain one of their star players, as an opening offer has been made by a League One outfit.

26-year-old Tyler Walton scored nine goals in all competitions and provided a further eight assists in an impressive first campaign in the EFL after arriving on a free transfer from Southport last summer.

Forward Plays Key Role in Battle to Avoid Relegation

Walton provided an impressive goal contribution tally as Accrington Stanley finished eight points above the relegation places in League Two last season. Only Ben Woods could better Walton’s total of 14 League Two goal contributions in the Stanley squad.

The former York City man was a constant goal threat, missing 13 big chances, an indication that there is room for improvement in his game. He was, however, also the main creative outlet at Accrington Stanley in the fourth tier, ranking first for big chances created.

The player appears to be a key man heading into the new campaign after helping the team avoid the drop last season, but he may not be in the squad come the opening weekend.

Accrington Stanley have retained their key players as they look to build on their League Two survival, but that resolve will be tested in the coming days, according to reports.

Opening Offer Made For Accrington Stanley Player

Alan Nixon (paywall) is reporting that Stanley are keen to keep hold of the player, but that he has been the subject of an opening offer from League One side Northampton Town, who themselves narrowly avoided relegation from the third tier last season.

Kevin Nolan has seen the permanent arrivals into his squad reach double figures in an attempt to build a team capable of climbing League One next season.

The Cobblers scored just 48 goals last season and have yet to significantly strengthen in attack, possibly leading to their interest in Walton. It appears from the report that the offer will be rejected, and it is unclear if the League One side will return with another bid.

Accrington Stanley begin the new League Two campaign with a home tie against Gillingham, and you can see all of their upcoming fixtures here.
