AFC Wimbledon face competition from elsewhere in the EFL for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Damola Ajayi, according to Tom Barclay.
The Dons have had a strong but unremarkable start to life in the third tier after winning the League Two playoffs, and find themselves in mid-table at the halfway point of the season.
Ajayi Targeted By Jackson
Looking to strengthen heading into the new year, Wimbledon have reportedly set their sights on 20-year-old Damola Ajayi, who is on the lookout for a new club after Tottenham recalled the midfielder from his loan at Doncaster Rovers.
Grant McCann did not give the Spurs prospect the time needed to assist his development, handing him just one start and 238 minutes of League One football total due to the successes of players like Owen Bailey and Luke Molyneux.

“Damola has been really unfortunate. We see every single day in training the ability that he’s got but he’s up against the best right winger in the league, in my opinion, Luke Molyneux. pic.twitter.com/djVipMK5Du

He earned a spot in the Rovers squad that played Tottenham in the EFL Cup earlier this season, but has struggled for game time outside of the EFL Trophy group stages, with his last appearance coming against Stockport County at the start of December.
A loan move for Ajayi to Plough Lane is on the cards, but will face competition from their South London rivals in Bromley, who have been the surprise package in League Two this season as the Ravens mount a promotion push.
Wimbledon Need Options
A rumoured approach for Damola Ajayi from AFC Wimbledon makes sense as they need support in the middle of the park for the remainder of the season.
Johnnie Jackson’s side have been looking for a third central midfielder to support Myles Hippolyte and Jake Reeves this season, with Callum Maycock becoming an increasingly preferred option over the past month or so.
With Ali Smith commonly playing on the right wing, it has left the Dons short of senior options to play in the middle of the pitch. A move for the 20-year-old will certainly allow Smith to return to his favoured position while giving Ajayi a chance of regular minutes.
Tottenham will want their prospect to get more game time, which may see them opt for a drop into League Two, with Bromley also facing a similar issue with veteran Corey Whitely playing out wide.
