Chelsa have reached an agreement with League One side Cardiff City for the loan transfer of promising forward Omari Kellyman before Monday’s deadline.
The 19-year-old was snapped up by the Blues in a deal worth just under £20 million back in the summer of 2024, but now he looks set to be heading out of the door to earn first-team minutes.
He could be the only Chelsea forward to make an exit this summer, with the deal to take Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich hanging in the balance.
Chelsea forward set for exit
As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Cardiff City have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign forward Omari Kellyman.
Kellyman has agreed to join the League One leaders on a season-long loan deal in a bid to earn some much needed men’s first-team minutes after a tough debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The forward is expected to complete the temporary move to South Wales before Monday’s 7pm deadline, in what’s likely to be seen as a huge statement of intent.
How did he fare last season?
After making his Premier League debut for Aston Villa in the 2023/24 campaign, Kellyman was snapped up by Chelsea in an eight-figure swoop.
However, he failed to push on last season and wasn’t handed a single first-team appearance for Enzo Maresca’s side – which is likely to explain why he’s been allowed to go out on loan this time around.
He did however make three appearances in the Premier League 2 for the Blues, playing a total of 138 minutes but failed to contribute to a goal or assist.
A statement of intent
It’s not everyday you see £20million players making loan moves to League One but this should be seen as a big statement by Cardiff City.
The Welsh side are currently top of the table after beating Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at the weekend and are yet to taste defeat this season – winning seven of their eight matches in all competitions.
Despite scoring goals for fun already this season, the addition of yet another creative outlet is one that the majority of League One sides should be fearing.
