Aldershot Town have completed the signing of midfielder Emmanuel Maja on a free transfer as their summer business continues, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.
The 23-year-old joins the Shots on a free transfer from relegated National League South side Banbury United, becoming Tommy Widdrington’s side’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
How did Maja fair last season?
In terms of his league outings during the 2023/24 campaign, Maja featured 33 times for Banbury last season but he wasn’t able to help keep the club in the sixth tier.
During that time, Maja scored four goals which arrived in matches against Farsley Celtic, Gloucester City, Darlington and Chester with these goals earning at least five extra points for the club.
A busy start continues for Aldershot
Maja’s arrival at Aldershot Town has become their third new signing during the close season so far, with each of them joining the Shots from sides in the division below.
First to arrive was playmaker Haydon Vaughan from Bracknell Town who previously held trials with Championship side QPR.
Farnham Town goalkeeper Pat Nash was the second player through the door in an attempt to bolster the club’s goalkeeping options with the player already training with the Shots during the 2023/24 season.
The Shots have also confirmed a couple of contract decisions, giving them a busy start to the summer transfer window.
What can Maja bring to Aldershot?
The club’s head of recruitment (Jamie Hedges) confirmed that Aldershot wanted ‘a midfielder with some presence and physicality’ which is exactly what Maja can bring to the Shots next season.
At 23, Maja has spent almost his entire career in the Non-League scene with the likes of Tonbridge Angels and Cheshunt but also had a trial with Premier League champions Manchester City.
His presence and ability will continue to bolster Aldershot’s midfield options moving into the 2024/25 season, with fellow midfielder Dejan Tetek also in talks about a new contract.
