Championship and Former Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has had his say on the possibility of becoming the new Cardiff City manager.
Cardiff have been without a manager since sacking Erol Bulut back on the 22nd of September after a terrible start to the season, with the Bluebirds bottom of the league with just one point, and Lowe is the latest man to be linked with the role.
Lowe points out the positives
On a post shared on X yesterday during his stint on Soccer Saturday, Lowe was asked about the vacant manager’s post at Cardiff City, in which he said that the job was an ‘attractive’ proposition. He went on to talk about the great fanbase, the talent in the squad and the impressive academy at Cardiff, which would make Cardiff a great opportunity for any out of work manager. In the same conversation, Gary Rowett joked that although he was an outsider for the job, he was still in with a chance, although it looks like he could be in line for the job at Hearts.
Lowe left Preston North End just one game into the new season after discussions with the new owners led him to feel he had taken the club as far as he could. He spent two and a half years at Deepdale leading them to three successive mid-table finishes. He could be an ideal proposition for Cardiff, as his attacking style of play would definitely suit the talent the squad possesses and the football the fans want.
Eclectic mix of favourites for the Cardiff City job
Although Lowe would be seen as a safe choice for the new manager at Cardiff, there are a diverse range of candidates vying for the position. This week it was reported by Wales Online that former Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea legend Claude Makelele could be in talks to take the job. Other names being suggested include Slaven Bilić, who has recently left his job at Al-Fateh and Ruben Sellés, who could be given a route out of the chaos at Reading.
Interim manager Omer Riza, who led the team to it’s first win of the season over Millwall and a draw in the Severnside derby before the international break, is also said to be keen on taking the job on a permanent basis. Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has seemingly distanced himself from the role despite appearing to “flirt” with the chance to return to his boyhood club, indicating he won’t jump ship at the Addicks.
Whoever Cardiff decides on, it needs to be quick as the international break is coming to an end and they are approaching a month without a full-time manager. They are back in action next Saturday against Plymouth Argyle.
