Arsenal have completed the signing of a forward from another Premier League club for a deal which will total £50 million if all of the add-on criteria is met.
Fabrizio Romano gave the news his famous ‘here we go’ treatment to confirm that an agreement on the fee had been reached between the two clubs. He also agreed that the attacker and Arsenal had reached a five-year contract for the player.
Noni Madueke will move into the top 10 most expensive signings for Arsenal with his up to £50 million transfer fee.
David Ornstein had also shared the day prior that a deal had been agreed between player and club, but a deal between Arsenal and Chelsea was still to be reached.
History between Arsenal and Chelsea
Player transfers between Arsenal and Chelsea are not new, despite the clubs being highly competitive with each other on the pitch.
Earlier this transfer window, Arsenal also signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as a backup goalkeeper to David Raya, and last summer signed Raheem Sterling on loan. The biggest transfers between the clubs have been Kai Havertz, Petr Cech and David Luiz.
However, the biggest moves the other way have been Ashley Cole and Olivier Giroud, who left the Gunners for Chelsea.
Arsenal’s need for an attacker
Arsenal struggled massively last season when injuries were picked up by Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz. They went from competing in the title race to finishing a distant 10 points off the pace. No player scored 10 or more goals for Arsenal in the Premier League last season and they ended up with Mikel Merino up front towards the end of the year.
Attacking reinforcements have been well reported throughout the summer so far and links to centre forwards Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have been linked to moves.
Madueke played in 32 Premier League games, scoring seven goals and providing three assists, as well as scoring four goals in the Conference League.
The 23-year-old has seven caps for England and moved to Chelsea for £30 million in 2023 from PSV.
