Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign a new forward during the January transfer window, following a potential breakthrough in their pursuit.
The Gunners may have their eyes glued on the title race, but their youth staff are simultaneously beginning to switch their attention over to the January transfer window, and how they could strengthen themselves further.
Forwards like Eddie Nketiah, Buakyo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have all proven to be huge success stories for young attacking options at Arsenal, and a new name could be joining them in the immediate future.
Arsenal closing in on forward transfer
As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers forward Igor Tyjon on a permanent contract, after receiving a boost in their pursuit of his services.
Tyjon is continuing to stall in regards to signing a new and improved contract with the Championship side, leading them to grow increasingly impatient – thus opening the door for his potential move to the Gunners.
Arsenal had a bid of £1 million turned down by Blackburn during the summer, but are set to be handed the green light to try and sign him at the second attempt.
The 17-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current season, thus meaning he can either wait until the summer and have his pick of sides or move for a fee in January.
How has he fared so far this season?
Tyjon is yet to feature in the Championship for Blackburn so far this season, largely down to his current contract situation at Ewood Park and thus has been limited heavily.
His only first-team appearance of the season came during their EFL Cup clash against Bradford City in August – with the rest of his appearances coming for the clubs U21s’ side.
Within those, he featured twice during their National League Cup campaign as well as contributing to four goals in three Premier League 2 appearances, but hasn’t played any football since the end of October.
