Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal are set to be without star summer signing Viktor Gyokeres until after the November international break.
The Gunners star suffered an injury in the win over Burnley at the weekend, understood to be a minor muscle injury. This will keep him out of action against Slavia Prague in the Champions League as well as Sunderland at the weekend.
The targeted return for the forward is the 23rd November, when rivals Tottenham visit the Emirates Stadium.
Major Blow for Arsenal but Hopefully a Short One
Gyokeres came into the club to much fanfare in the summer. A high-profile battle between Arsenal and Manchester United as well as difficulties with his former club Sporting certainly took most of the headlines.
He was brought in to be the answer to the club’s long standing striker problem. For several years it has been touted that Arsenal are one star striker away from consistently challenging for the title.
To date he has returned six goals from his 14 games in the side with only four in the Premier League. Whilst he has not quite set the world alight yet, he has shown promising signs.
His 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting more than showcases his killer instinct in the final third.
Gyokeres has had a reasonably clean injury record in the past. However, with three injuries picked up in the 2024/25 season there is perhaps cause for concern. Players often begin to pick up more injuries as they get older and in an explosive position such as a striker muscle injury can be common.
The Gunners will be hoping that it can be managed well and a return within the month could be a realistic target. The fear will be if it becomes a reoccurring injury throughout the season. His goals could be the difference between a first title win since Wenger and another close call.
