Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall is reportedly on the radar of League One duo Blackpool and Port Vale this summer.
The 22-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, where he featured in all 46 of their EFL League 2 matches.
Pete O’Rourke states that both Port Vale and Blackpool are prepared to negotiate permanent or loan deals for the shot stopper.
Aston Villa Man Sparks EFL Interest
Marschall has already enjoyed some extremely successful loan spells in English football, including with Gateshead and Milton Keynes Dons. But he could be set to depart Villa Park on a permanent basis in the coming weeks.
With Emiliano Martinez established as the Villains’ number one, they may be willing to part with their Academy product in this window. Having joined Aston Villa from Cambridge United at the age of 14, any move would be a big step for the former England Under-19 international.
How did he fare last season?
The 2024/25 season proved to be the breakthrough campaign for Marschall as he completed an ever-present season for Crewe Alexandra. He featured 51 times in all competitions for the Cheshire outfit, helping Lee Bell’s team to a 13th-place finish in the fourth tier.
Having played every single minute in the Alex goal last season, Marschall conceded 48 league goals.
At 6 ft 5 in tall, Marschall’s imposing stature is a desirable attribute for any club searching for a new number one. His ability to command his penalty area, especially from set pieces is a key factor as to why he keeps garnering EFL attention.
Blackpool to Make Their Move
Blackpool are almost certain to have a new man between the posts next season, having seen both of last season’s options leave.
Harry Tyrer returned to his parent club, Everton, at the culmination of his loan, while Richard O’Donnell recently joined Championship club Derby County.
Already this summer, the Tangerines have signed Argentine goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli, with Steve Bruce keen to bolster his options in that position.
The Lancashire coast club finished in 9th place last season, shipping 60 league goals across the campaign. Having finished close to a play-off spot, the Blackpool boss appears to be focused on making his team harder to score against next term.
Port Vale Interested in Filip Marschall
Newly promoted Port Vale are also credited with an interest in the highly rated goalkeeper. The Valiants will be determined to consolidate upon their return to League One and have already targeted defensive reinforcements.
Manager Darren Moore has already welcomed Marko Marosi to his ranks this summer. With 35-year-old veteran Ben Amos already under contract at Vale Park, the Staffordshire club is well versed in goalkeeping experience.
Wherever Filip Marschall ends up ahead of the new season, he has the potential to be a game-changer, providing a formidable presence between the posts.
