Premier League Aston Villa have been contending with interest in their goalkeeping department from the likes of Manchester United for World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez. However, an ambitious League One side have now swooped to secure a goalkeeper from the club.
Whilst the attention of most Villa fans will be on whether Ruben Amorim will sign Martinez this summer, transfers are still going on away from the first team.
With EFL League One and Two kicking off in just a few days, sides will be eager to confirm additions.
League One Stevenage Secure Premier League Aston Villa Goalkeeper Filip Marschall
League One Stevenage have been able to convince Filip Marschall of Aston Villa to join on loan this season. This is according to The Football Deck Sources who have indicated a deal is done (first reported by Alan Nixon – paywall).
The 22-year-old shot stopper has previously been on loan at Gateshead, MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra but is yet to play higher than League Two level. He has made one appearance in Europe. Marschall played 90 minutes in the final group game of the Conference League against Zrinjski Mostar.
He joins Jordan Houghton, Bez Lubala, Saxon Earley and Mathaeus Roberts through the door at The Lamex Stadium.
Stevenage’s Difficult Season Ahead
Stevenage are one of a select few sides in the league that are well run and financially responsible. Unfortunately they are having to face sides with little care.
Whilst it is unlikely they will be targeting a promotion run, seeing sides spend multi-million pound transfer fees makes the act of competing with them more difficult.
Alex Revell has done a good job with the tools he has got. Now comes the challenge of maintaining it with a side that is increasingly his own.
