It has been reported that Premier League Aston Villa are interested in signing Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea.

Aston Villa Want Chelsea’s Nkunku

According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are keen on signing Christopher Nkunku. The forward is out of favour at Chelsea after a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku is coming in to his third season in West London. The Frenchman joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 after joining from RB Leipzig for just over £50 million.

How Did He Fare Last Season?

After an injury hampered his first season, Nkunku was resigned to the substitutes bench for most of last season in the Premier League. Manager, Enzo Maresca, favoured Nicholas Jackson in a starting striker role in the league. As a result, the French forward was resigned to playing most of him minutes in the cup competitions. Nkunku helped Chelsea to Europa Conference League glory last season.

Would This Be A Good Signing For Villa?

Unai Emery’s side have failed to score so far this season. A goalless draw at home to Newcastle United on the opening day was followed by a one-nil loss at the GTech Stadium against Brentford.

As a result, Villa are now active in the market for a new attacker.

After the sale of Jhon Duran in January, the Villans have not yet properly replaced the Colombian. Donyell Malen was signed in January from Borussia Dortmund, however, the Dutch man has been mainly deployed by Emery on the wing. Marcus Rashford played as a striker for Villa, after joining from Manchester United on loan in January. The English man had a positive impact at Villa Park. However, he has since returned to parent club Manchester United and joined FC Barcelona on loan.

This could be a smart signing by Unai Emery. The Spaniard is brilliant at developing players, with Ollie Watkins vastly improving his game since Emery’s arrival in 2022. The manager could do the same with Nkunku, reviving the Frenchman’s career and bringing back his RB Leipzig form that made Chelsea splash £50 million on him.

However, Villa will have to move fast to secure Nkunku’s services, with Bayern Munich and Leipzig also interested. The Villans also have Nicholas Jackson on their list of targets if they miss out on Nkunku.
