Aston Villa Secure 284 Appearance Man Utd Star

Premier League Aston Villa are set for a busy final 48 hours of the window, with reports emerging that Manchester United could move for Emi Martinez. However, the Villans look set to secure their own former MUFC star.

Unai Emery’s side suffered a major blow in the transfer window earlier today with their move for Lucas Paqueta falling at the final hurdle. They have struggled to secure some of their key targets this summer, with the big spending of Premier League teams setting records.

But now Aston Villa look to have finally bolstered their defence with an experienced top flight defender.

Aston Villa Secure Victor Lindelof Signing After Manchester United Departure

Aston Villa have now agreed a deal with Victor Lindelof to join the club on a two year contract plus an additional year, according to Fabrizio Romano.

This proposal is a better package than was offered by Everton and Fiorentina, who were in active talks with the defender’s representatives.

Lindelof Not Finished with the Premier League

It was expected for much of the window that Lindelof would be moving away from the Premier League after being released by Manchester United. However, after 284 appearances for the Red Devils, it appears his time in English football is far from complete.

The 31-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2017, from Benfica under then manager Jose Mourinho. He went on to become a solid squad player, and at times a regular starter.

However, as time went on his minutes reduced. Lindelof only appeared in 16 Premier League games last season. This was for a total of 697 minutes an average of just over 43 per game.

The defender does have some serious pedigree to his name, he has won the League Cup and FA Cup with Manchester United. Previously the Portuguese title three times with Benfica, alongside the Super Cup, League Cup and Portuguese Cup. He also won the Euro U-21s with Sweden and was named the country’s player of the year in 2018.
