Barnsley have increased their asking price for one of their sought-after stars, which has put off two potential Championship suitors.
Conor Hourihane faces a busy end to the transfer window with several players attracting interest from elsewhere.
21-year-old Reyes Cleary is one of those players. He has had an impressive season in League One for the Tykes, despite their struggles in the league.
However, the latest update from Alan Nixon suggests Cleary might still be at the club until the end of the season despite interest from the Championship.
Barnsley Set New Asking Price for Reyes Cleary
On his Patreon, Nixon shared that the South Yorkshire side now want £5million plus an extra £3million in add-ons for the winger.
This has put off Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers, according to the journalist. Both clubs are interested in signing him, but not for such a high price.
The pair aren’t the only clubs interested in the wide man. The Sheffield Star reported earlier in the week that Bristol City were also keeping tabs on the young attacker.
Cleary Shines for Barnsley
The English winger only joined Barnsley last summer and has had an immediate impact, which is why several clubs in the league above are eyeing a move for him.
Cleary has played 21 times in League One this campaign, starting 15 of those games. Playing from the left of their attack, he’s received an average rating of 6.94 from Sofascore, the second highest in the Tykes squad.
Creatively, he’s been one of the standouts. The 21-year-old has picked up eight assists, more than anyone in the Barnsley team. He’s also averaging 1.2 key passes per match, the third highest in the squad.
In front of the goal, he’s shown he is a threat as well. Clearly has five league goals while averaging 1.3 shots per game and 0.6 shots on target per game.
If he does depart Barnsley before the end of the window, the Tykes will miss his creativity as they look to ensure they don’t get dragged into a relegation battle.
