Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders Break 84-Year Record

NFL

The Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders broke an 84-year record when the two sides met in the NFL.

Both the Bengals and Commanders flexed their offensive qualities at the Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

The Commanders, who came into the game as underdogs, walked away with the W, beating Joe Burrow’s Bengals 38-33.

Attack, attack, attack

It wasn’t just the rookie Commanders quarterback, Jayden Daniels, that caught the attention. The game smashed a record that’s stood for 84 years.

The game was the first NFL game since 1940 with no turnovers or punts. Each team’s special teams were just used for kick-offs, field goals, or extra-point attempts. While each team’s defence struggled to maintain the other’s attack and looked no existent.

It was a display most fans enjoyed thanks to the attacking quality, both sides will likely be keen to see their sides improve defensively.

Experience vs inexperience

The Bengals and Commanders were led by QBs at different stages of their careers. The Bengals have Burrow who’s into year number five of his career and looking to reach the Super Bowl for the second time.

Burrow’s put up good numbers in their defeat to the Commanders. He had 324 passing yards, completing 76% of his passes, and making three passing touchdowns. This was his best return of the season, but still not enough to get the W.

On the other side of the field, the Commanders had rookie QB Daniels. They came out aggressive and Daniels performance, in his first primetime game, was impressive.

Daniels had a pass success rate of 91%, 254 passing yards, and threw two touchdown passes. These were his first of the season and will have most Commanders fans licking their lips at their new QB prospect.

How bad is this defeat for the Bengals? – opinion

The defeat against the Commanders puts the Bengals’ record at 0-3. Only six teams have reached the playoffs after starting 0-3, which isn’t promising news for the Bengals fans.

One big positive is the Burrows looked to be on form against Washington. Not only that, but their whole offensive line looked good. They put up 436 yards in total and scored 33 points.

If they want to have any chance of making the playoffs, they need to improve defensively and quickly.

Up next, they’ve got the Panthers who are 1-2. A win here could turn their fortunes around and bring back some positivity to Cincinnati.
