Colchester United have been fending off interest for Kyreece Lisbie after it was revealed that one club has submitted a number of bids for the winger.
The 22-year-old has played in each of the Essex side’s 24 League Two matches this season, 16 of which were from the start. He has been the standout player for Danny Cowley’s side, with nine goals and six assists this campaign.
European Side Bids Revealed
According to Pete O’Rourke on social media, Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem have submitted ‘several offers’ to Colchester in January for Kyreece Lisbie
Lisbie left non-league side Brentford’s B team and his spell at non-league Braintree Town back in April, and has immediately made an impact at the Jobserve Community Stadium, leading the U’s charge for the playoffs this season.
Waregem are a newly-promoted side from the second tier, and sit in 12th place, above the relegation playoff places and in with a chance of a UEFA Conference League place.
He is not the only member of his family linked with a move this January, with brother Kyrell previously being tipped to move to Cardiff City from Peterborough United.
Could Derail Season
Kyreece Lisbie’s importance to Colchester United’s season so far cannot be understated so this will be a big decision as to whether to sell now.
His time under Danny Cowley, especially since the start of the season, has been exceptional and alongside Jack Payne has been a big reason for their points total and can certainly be why they add to that going forward.
But it is still early in his spell at Colchester and with a realistic shot of playoff football this season, risking losing their star winger could dampen their hopes.
More Great Recruitment
No matter the outcome of this deal, it is another testament to how brilliant Colchester United have been with signing talents for the future and selling them on.
Interest from the Belgian top flight speaks volumes to Lisbie’s promise, and should he continue to develop while in Europe, a large sell-on fee for the U’s is to be expected.
As with players like Kwame Poku and Junior Tchamadeu before him, the recruitment team at the club are one in the best in the EFL for scouting and has enabled them to reap the rewards of that effort.
