Birmingham City have allowed youngster Alfie Chang to make another move to League Two this season as he returns to Walsall.
The midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan with struggling Bristol Rovers, but was removed by new manager Steve Evans as part of his January clearout plans.
Saddlers Return Agreed
According to Pete O’Rourke, Chang is now set to head to Walsall, where he spent the second half of last season on loan as their promotion push collapsed in spectacular fashion.
He made eight appearances for Mat Sadler’s team, and scored once in their Play-off Semi Final first leg match against Chesterfield, before playing most of the game at Wembley as they became unstuck against AFC Wimbledon.

Chang has struggled to make an impact at St. Andrew’s since emerging through their academy system, but saw regular game time in the 2022/23 season under John Eustace in the Championship before a significant knee injury ruled him out of the entire following campaign.
Walsall have looked to strengthen their midfield ranks this January, having also made a permanent move for Bradford City‘s Alex Pattison, and this move will reunite the Blues youngster with Kacper Lopata, who he played with at Bristol Rovers earlier this campaign.
Chang Adds Needed Depth
Walsall making a return move for Alfie Chang is a good way to shore up their numbers as they look to put themselves back into the race for automatic promotion.
The Saddlers have struggled to mark down a starting defensive midfielder, with Brandon Comley filling in following Lewis Warrington’s injury in the past couple of weeks.
That worry of depth has been compounded following the news that Jake Hollman will now miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring issue which has had to be operated on.
In his limited time at Walsall, Chang looked a solid player in a very turbulent spell for the club as they plummeted from their commaning lead at the top of League Two to be pushed into the playoffs at the last minute by Bradford City.
With Chang now at 23-years-old and his contract at St. Andrew’s ending in the summer, this is a vital move to decide where his future lies and will surely be keen to impress to try and secure a permanent move to the Bescot Stadium.
