Championship new boys Birmingham City haven’t held back in the transfer window this summer. The Blues have now tabled an offer for a midfielder with Champions League experience.

Returning to the second tier after one year in League One, it wasn’t known what to expect from Birmingham. Some EFL experts and fans have suggested back-to-back promotions to the Premier League could be on the cards.

It’s been a promising start for Birmingham. Two wins and one draw puts them 5th in the table.

With the window almost over, the Blues are still trying to improve their squad. The latest Birmingham City transfer news is that they’ve submitted a bid for Celtic winger HyunJun Yang.

HyunJun Yang to Birmingham City?

Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports News reported that Birmingham City submitted a £ 1.5 million bid for South Korean international, Yang.

It has not been confirmed whether the offer will be accepted by Celtic. However, talks are continuing between the two sides.

How Did Yang Play Last Season?

23-year-old Yang may have only started nine of his 23 appearances last season in the Scottish Premiership, but he made an impact. He received a 7.06 average rating from Sofascore for his displays.

In his 23 appearances, the winger scored five goals. He finished the league season with 0.9 shots per game and 0.4 shots on target per game.

Creatively, Yang probably didn’t have the impact he would have likely wanted. He had just two assists, created three big chances and contributed 0.8 key passes per game.

Yang also featured in the Champions League. He played six games, starting just one, and received an average rating of 6.74. His standout game was a 7.4 against Bayern Munich, with Yang picking up an assist during his 13 minutes on the field.

Is This a Good Signing for Birmingham City?

Despite not getting many starts last season, Hyunjun Yang appears to be a great signing by Birmingham.

At just 23, he’s still developing his game, but he has already played against some of the best teams in the Champions League, as well as having experience winning trophies in Scotland with Celtic.

He might need some time to adapt to the Championship, but he’ll be a great option from the bench for the next few games, with the potential of becoming a starter in the future.

The fee is impressive as well. £1.5m seems a steal for a player of his age. If Birmingham can nurture and develop him, they could see a healthy return on him in the future.
