League One favourites, Birmingham City, have announced the signing of 27-year-old winger, Scott Wright, on a three-year deal from Rangers.
Wright becomes the sixteenth signing of the summer for Chris Davies’ Birmingham who may still make further signings before the transfer window shuts.
Various Championship sides were chasing Scott Wright
27-year-old winger, Scott Wright, was attracting widespread interest this summer, notably from Championship sides: Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday, who were both interested in signing the Rangers man but failed to agree a deal, according to David Edgar.
Wright almost completed a switch to Turkey last summer, with The Sun revealing that recently promoted Super Lig side, Pendikspor, had agreed a £500,000 fee with Rangers, with Wright even captured flying out to Istanbul in order to discuss a move.
In a dramatic turn of events, Wright’s move to Pendikspor fell through despite travelling to meet the club’s officials with the Turkish side’s manager explaining to Skorer:
“Our transfer efforts continue. We will make four or five reinforcements. Unfortunately, every player we talk to wants high wages. They also consider the Saudi Arabian factor”.
Birmingham City have announced the signing of Wright
Wright, who only played 709 Scottish Premiership minutes for Rangers last season, has finally completed his exit from Ibrox with Birmingham City announcing the signing of the 27-year-old winger on a three-year deal.
Football Scotland revealed that Birmingham City have paid £300,000 for their sixteenth signing of the summer transfer window, almost half the price that Rangers were close to securing for the Balmedie-born forward a season ago.
Speaking to Birmingham City’s in-house media following the move, Wright has expressed his excitement to be involved in the club’s new era, stating: “I am absolutely delighted. It all happened very fast, but I am delighted to be here and excited to get going.
“Everybody from the outside can see this club and where it wants to go, and I am very grateful to be a part of that and on the journey”.
Birmingham are eyeing one more sensational signing before the window shuts
Despite the signing of Wright and already adding sixteen players to their squad this summer, Birmingham City are reportedly not quite finished with their business in the transfer window.
John Percy on X has revealed that the Blues have submitted an eye-watering £9-10 million bid for former loanee, Jay Stansfield.
Stansfield bagged twelve Championship goals for Birmingham City last season despite the club finishing in the relegation zone with Chris Davies’ side now eyeing a permanent move for the Fulham striker.
Should Birmingham finalise the potentially eight-figure deal for Stansfield, it would comfortably be the most expensive transfer in League One history.
