Birmingham City Expected To Seal Deadline Day Transfer

Birmingham City are set to seal a deal to allow playmaker Tyler Roberts to sign for League One side Mansfield Town on a season-long loan deal.

Roberts is out of favour at St. Andrews and spent last season out on loan in League One but swapped a title battle for a relegation fight.

With the playmaker still out of favour under manager Chris Davies, it seems a matter of when than if – for Roberts to leave the football club this summer.

Roberts set for Birmingham exit

As reported by Football League World, Birmingham City playmaker Tyler Roberts is expected to complete his second successive loan stint away from the Championship side before Monday’s deadline.

The playmaker is expected to join Mansfield Town on loan until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Roberts is under contract at St. Andrews until June 2027, meaning it is unlikely that this move could be changed into a permanent one last minute.

How did he fare last season?

After falling out of favour under Chris Davies at Birmingham, Roberts made a loan switch to fellow League One side Northampton Town for the season.

With the Cobblers, Roberts made 31 appearances across all competitions for the club and contributed to four goals during his stay with the club.

He returned to Birmingham at the end of the season and hasn’t featured for the football club since.

Is this a good move?

Roberts burst onto the scene with Leeds United as a youngster but couldn’t seem to get to grips with consistency in his performances and that played a part in his struggles to hold down a starting role at St. Andrews.

He does possess a lot of experience and did contribute to goals within a Northampton Town attack that struggled to create and take chances overall.

Nigel Clough has proven himself to be a good manager when it comes to bringing the best out of loan players and a move for consistent minutes could be the ideal scenario for Roberts this season.
