Birmingham City are plotting another audacious move in the transfer market, with a Korean international on the radar.

Chris Davies’ Blues have shown little hesitation this season, unbeaten in the Championship after a record-breaking season in League One.

Having added the likes of Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle, and Kyogo Furuhashi, the West Midlands side look set to make another big move.

Hyun-jun Yang to Birmingham City

If any criticism could be drawn of Birmingham so far this season, it would be their wasteful nature in the box.

Having dominated all of their league outings, Davies’ men are yet to win by more than a single goal.

Therefore, additional firepower is on the manager’s wishlist in the closing days of the window.

Recently adding exciting Liverpool prospect Lewis Koumas to their ranks, Celtic wideman Hyun-jun Yang is now a target.

According to reports from Football League World, the South Korean is on the club’s list of targets as the manager seeks to add to his wide options before the deadline.

The international joined the Scottish giants from Gangwon FC two years ago, and was particularly impressive for the Hoops last season.

However, he has found consistent minutes hard to come by this season, yet to play a full 90 minutes, and was omitted from the first XI in their first leg UEFA Champions League Qualifying tie against Kairat Almaty.

How would the winger fare at Birmingham City?

Hyun-jun has an excellent record for goal contributions in the Scottish Premiership.

Tallying five goals and two assists in 23 appearances last season was a respectable return, even more so considering he only started nine matches.

Therefore, there is substance to suggest that consistent gametime could be fundamental for the winger’s career.

Additionally, with Celtic now eliminated from the Champions League, playing opportunities could have become more limited at Celtic Park.

At the age of 23, there is still plenty of room to grow, and Birmingham City’s current trajectory suggests that the club is a positive environment for a young player.

However, he would face competition from a hungry core of players in the same position.

Gray is a much-adored figure at St. Andrews, having returned to the club he left nearly a decade ago, the former Everton man has much to prove.

Additionally, Koumas is one of the division’s most exciting talents, while Keshi Anderson is a dependable option for Davies.

Will a move for Hyun-jun materialise?

Entering the final days of the window, a number of prospective deals can be expected to speed up.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has struggled for forward areas this season, with Jota recently injured and Johnny Kenny also linked with a move away.

This could leave the Glasweigan club reluctant to sell without an adequate replacement lined up.

Moreover, the Korean has shown to be a dependable option for the West Midlands club, which is helpful when injuries begin to pile up.

However, a move south of the border for likely increased gametime could be too good for him to turn down.

A move to Birmingham would also reunite the wideman with his compatriot Tomoki Iwata, who is currently untouchable in the Blues’ XI.

With the window drawing to a close, it can be heavily anticipated that Birmingham City will dip into their pockets in the remaining days.

It will be interesting to see if a move for the winger will come into fruition.
