Birmingham City look to bolster their squad with a cheaper option in the January transfer window and are looking to Ibrox for a solution.
The Blues may have been the biggest spenders in League One in the summer, but that has not stopped them from setting their sights on the January transfer window.
As they currently sit at the top of the third division, the gap may be smaller than they were hoping to be, and they will be looking to expand on that in the second half of this season.
With an option identified in the transfer market this winter, they will be hoping they can entice the target’s club into a sale before his contract runs up in the summer.
Birmingham City cast eyes on Rangers.
According to The Daily Mail, Chris Davies’ side are looking at a deal on the cheap for Rangers defender Adam Devine. The League One leaders have already done business with the Scottish giants recently, loaning Ben Davies from the club.
While the right-back is a hot prospect of the Gers’ academy that the club are hopeful can push into the first-team setup, his appearances for the side have been limited, and with his contract up this summer, a move elsewhere for first-team football could be on the table for the full-back.
The Blues already have the best defence in the league, having conceded only 17 goals this season, meaning that department is not an immediate necessity to be boosted currently, but Davies could be looking to build on a solid foundation by adding a young talent to his defence.
Birmingham City rivals look to compete for Devine signature.
Birmingham City appears to not be the only side looking to get a deal through for Devine this winter, with it reported that local rivals West Bromwich Albion also keeping tabs on the full-back.
The Baggies are chasing the playoff places in the Championship but have lost manager Carlos Corberan to Spanish side Valencia. The departure of Corberan does not seem to have affected the squad too much as they remain in the playoff places in the second tier. However, a boost in the defensive department could be welcomed despite their record of just 21 goals conceded.
Birmingham City may have been as surprised as everyone else by the emergence of Wycombe Wanderers in the title race this season. However, their Midlands rivals may have handed a boost to the Blues by recalling star defender Caleb Taylor from his loan at Matt Bloomfield’s side.
