Birmingham City have been handed a transfer boost, following confirmation that Swansea City defender Harry Darling is still yet to sign a new contract with the Championship side.

The 25-year-old already has a contract offer on the table from the Swans, but is yet to accept their terms and now faces the possibility of becoming a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

According to a report via Wales Online, Harry Darling’s future remains up in the air heading into the final weeks of the season.

Could Darling leave Swansea?

Darling has been an integral part of Swansea City’s defence over the last three seasons alongside the likes of Ben Capango and has registered over 100 appearances across all competitions.

During that time, he’s contributed to 16 goals and proved to be reliable across both boxes for Alan Sheehan’s side.

He will become a free agent as things stand, posing a big question as to whether he will agree to stay at Swansea City or move on to a fresh start elsewhere.

Whether Swansea avoid relegation to League One could prove to be a big turning point in the defenders thinking moving forward.

How has he fared this season?

Although Swansea City have had a challenging 2024/25 campaign thus far and have since parted ways with manager Luke Williams.

Across his 35 appearances during the current season, Darling has contributed to three goals and three assists with all of them arriving in the Championship.

He’s also averaged a match rating of 7.16 this season, which ranks as the clubs highest performer and a big factor as to why they aren’t deeper in a relegation battle.

Would he be a good addition for Birmingham?

Birmingham City can confirm promotion back to the Championship on Tuesday evening if they beat Peterborough United or Wycombe drop points.

Therefore, Chris Davies’ side can then begin their preparations for the Championship and adding someone who’s consistently performed at that level will become a much needed addition.

Darling certainly strengthens Birmingham’s defensive options and provides stability with Ben Davies’ set to return to Rangers when his loan deal ends unless a deal can be agreed.

Birmingham may be the only team credited with an interest, but the report from Wales Online confirms several other Championship sides are also keeping tabs on his contract situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
