Birmingham City could win the League One title on Saturday and pick up the EFL Trophy on the Sunday if results go their way this week.
The Blues are top of the League One table with 92 points from 39 games putting them on course to break the record points total set by Wolverhampton Wanderers. They also face Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
How can Birmingham City win both League One and the EFL Trophy in the same weekend?
If Birmingham City win their midweek fixture against Peterborough United they have confirmed automatic promotion. However, they can go one better and confirm the League One title if Wrexham lose to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Wrexham only have five games remaining, meaning if they win all five they can only achieve 95 points. If they lose to Wigan that would point their maximum points total down to 92 points. Meaning, if Birmingham City win their league fixture against the Posh their 95 point total will be unable to be beaten, meaning they are League One Champions. They could then go on to lift the EFL Trophy just 24 hours later to secure a historic EFL double. Callum of the League One Lowdown team calculated the results which were read out by Jamie Johnson on THE DECK’s latest episode.
Summary
- Birmingham City beat Peterborough United on Tuesday (Confirming Automatic Promotion)
- Wrexham Lose to Wigan Athletic (League One Title Win)
- Birmingham City beat Peterborough United at Wembley on Sunday (EFL Trophy Win)
