Birmingham City Learn Jay Stansfield Fate After Injury

League One Birmingham City star Jay Stansfield suffered an injury and was stretchered off the pitch during the club’s victory over Bradford City in the EFL Trophy. Now manager Chris Davies has provided an update to his condition.

The striker joined the third-tier side following their relegation from the Championship, and in a record-breaking deal. The signing reportedly cost in excess of £15million plus add-ons.

This season, he has led the Blues’ charge up the table; to put them on track to smash the record League One points total set by Wolverhampton Wanderers. To date he has scored 21 goals in all competitions across 31 appearances, which has put him joint top of the League One top scorers’ table.

With his contribution being so high so far this campaign, the sight of the player heading off the pitch on a stretcher was a “huge concern” according to Chris Davies.

Birmingham City Jay Stansfield Injury Update

The Blues have revealed that they have received positive news from the initial scans on the Jay Stansfield injury. They released a statement on their official website detailing how there was no signs of any bone breakage or ligament damage, but assessments would continue in the coming days.

The club wish to provide the following update on the condition of Jay Stansfield.
The Blues striker was stretchered off an hour into Tuesday night’s Vertu Trophy victory over Bradford City.
Stansfield was taken to a local hospital where scans have since revealed no indication of bone or ligament damage to the affected area.
The 22-year-old will continue to be assessed by the club’s medical staff in the coming days.

Positive News for Birmingham City Promotion Chances

Whilst Birmingham City certainly have the squad size and the momentum to win the title without their star striker, having him as part of the team can only be seen as a huge positive. The Blues have been magnificent this season. Whilst critics will point to the money spent, or the stars at their disposal, you would be hard pressed to find someone who can criticise their efforts or dedication to earning promotion at the first time of asking.

Taking League One Seriously

There have been many “big” sides drop from the Championship into League One over the years. Some failed to ever get back out, whilst others took years. Having witnessed this, the League One Lowdown podcast, and I all believed that there could be a similar issue with Birmingham City.

However, unlike many of the sides who drop down and think they can regain promotion with the side that saw them relegated, the Blues took a different approach. They bought the best talent they could get their hands on and not only that poached some of the top performers in League One last season.

They took the league seriously and knew that to make it out at the first time of asking they would need to prepare and prepare well. If more Championship sides thought the same, then perhaps it wouldn’t be so daunting dropping into League One.
