League One leaders Birmingham City look set to sign South Korean international Lee Myung-Jae. According to Charlie Haffenden, the highly rated defender will join on a free transfer.

Blues boss Chris Davies has been determined to bolster his options on the left side of defence, and he appears to have gotten his wish on deadline day.

How will Lee Myung-Jae Benefit Birmingham

Lee heads to St Andrews having accumulated over 250 career appearances, mostly for Ulsan HD in the K League. The 31-year-old only made his debut for the South Korea national team in 2024, and has played in seven World Cup qualifiers since. He arrives in the second city after a hugely successful few years, having helped Ulsan HD to three consecutive K League titles. E

Earlier this month, Chris Davies alluded to his desire to bring in players who have won titles and achieved promotions elsewhere in their careers, to bring much needed expertise in their hunt for promotion.

After a second serious knee injury in relatively quick success for Lee Buchanan, Birmingham have been left short in the left back area. The arrival of Lee will go a long way to remediating that, as well provide cover for Alex Cochrane in a hectic run in. The league leaders are strengthening where they need to most as they look to continue their imperious march towards an immediate Championship return.

Can Anyone Stop the Blues Juggernaut?

Birmingham currently have a four point lead at the top of League One, crucially with two games in hand on their closest rivals. They are unbeaten in all competitions since late November and look almost certain to achieve promotion straight back to the second tier.

Birmingham have been extremely shrewd in their transfer business this month, for the most part keeping faith with the squad that have put them in their current strong position. They have nourished their squad in the positions that needed it most, bringing in Grant Hanley and Kieron Dowell, both of whom already have promotions on their resume.

In a particularly competitive season in League One, Birmingham have taken it by storm, despite stiff opposition from the likes of Wycombe and Wrexham. Having established their lead at the top, the Blues have managed to come away unscathed from matches against their biggest rivals, setting themselves up beautifully for their promotion charge.
