Birmingham City Receive Transfer Boost In Pursuit Of Former Coventry City Man

Birmingham City

Birmingham City target Marko Marosi is set to become a free agent later this month as Wrexham, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United also consider a move for the player, according to Shrewsbury Town’s official club website.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been confirmed by his current club to be leaving when his contract expires at the end of the month, leaving him free to link up with a new team next season. League One clubs, Birmingham City, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and League Two promotion winners Wrexham have all reportedly shown an interest.

The soon-to-be free agent made 147 appearances for the club and picked up the Players’ Player of the Year award last season. He has also been on the books of Coventry City, Doncaster Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Barnoldswick.

What’s been said?

Speaking to the club’s official website, the departing goalkeeper thanked the club;

“I want to thank the club for bringing me in and letting me be part of its history,”

“I want to thank the managers and all of the staff, not just the football side but behind-the-scenes as well.

“And lastly I want to thank the fans for all the love and support you have shown me over the three years, you guys are amazing.”

An attractive proposition for League One?

The 30-year-old has been with Shrewsbury since 2021 and become a mainstay in the team. In his career to date, he has 220 appearances in the team and has been consistently available for 40+ games for the last three seasons. Whichever club picks him up will secure a goalkeeper who has vast experience at this level and knows what it takes to stay in the League, keeping over 10 clean sheets in four of the last five seasons.

He was part of the Doncaster Rovers side that reached the League One play-offs in 2018/19 and part of the Coventry City side that secured their return to the second tier in 2019/20, which demonstrates his ability to compete towards the top of the division, which all four sides will be hoping to do.
