League One Champions Birmingham City will have to cope without their captain Krystian Bielik for the final few games of the season as they chase down the record points total.
Last week will be a memorable one for Blues fans, despite failing to lift the trophy at Wembley they were able to confirm promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking on Tuesday night and were also confirmed as title winners on Saturday due to Wrexham dropping points.
However, there was one notable omission from the Birmingham City squad on Sunday, captain Krystian Bielik. The defender has played a key role in the club’s success this season topping many of the player ratings charts on WhoScored and SofaScore throughout the campaign.
Chris Davies delivers BCFC injury news
Speaking after the game, Davies confirmed the Birmingham injury news quoted by Birmingham Live:
“It was an injury,” confirmed Davies
“It’s just a knock that he picked up from that game and he will be out of action for a couple of weeks I would say from now.”
A Huge Loss But at a Good Time in the League One Season
Bielik has been the star player in a team laden with star players. His leadership and ability to control the defence has allowed for the more creative and forward thinking stars to express themselves without the fear of conceding behind them.
The loss does come at the best possible time of the season, they have already confirmed their title win and although he missed the EFL Trophy Final, they have little to play for now other than their own personal targets as well as the League One points record, set by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Blues squad does have strength in depth, with the players that are sat on the bench likely to walk into most squads in the division.
