Birmingham City forward Romelle Donovan is the latest player to attract Premier League interest, this time from Brentford.
The 18-year-old has only recently returned from an ill-fated loan spell at fellow League One side Burton Albion. The youngster was regularly overlooked as the side battled against the drop with their recent managerial change having little impact on his overall gametime.
Due to this the Blues opted to cancel his spell with the Brewers and place him in training with the under-21s with a decision to be made in the upcoming January transfer window.
Premier League Interest Changes Plans
Brentford, are known for the quality of their recruitment, picking up younger unproven players based on data to unearth hidden gems that are overlooked by traditional recruitment techniques.
According to Birmingham Live, the Premier League side have held a long term interest in the player however it is unknown how serious this interest is at this stage and whether the potential of the player being made available would accelerate plans.
The report states:
“Brentford have a long-standing interest in Donovan and could try to secure his signature again after failing in the summer.”
Birmingham City Set to Cash In?
Birmingham have spent well in the summer and could be tempted to spend further in the January window. Whilst their spending power is in no way restricted it is always good to take the opportunity to recoup some of the spend. There is a possibility of some incoming cash should Jobe Bellingham be sold by Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund. To gain some income from a player returning from a failed loan spell in League One would be a masterstroke.
With the quality in the Blues forwardline it is unlikely he will break into the first time any time soon so either another loan spell away or a sale to Brentford for them to continue his development may he best for all parties involved.
