Birmingham City to Offer Huge 30kp/w Deal To Poach League One Star Ahead of Rangers

Birmingham City

Birmingham City are attempting to submit a whopping 30k wage offer for Peterborough United winger, Kwame Poku.

The Blues have certainly hit the heights of League One this campaign, which is not a shock to most EFL fans, considering their wealth status amongst other teams in the league.

They now seem set to further improve upon an already incredible squad by pursuing the signature of Peterborough winger, Kwame Poku.

This comes after Posh’s leading talisman’s contract is set to expire as of June 2025.

Birmingham City are set to submit a whopping £30,000 wage offer, amid interest from Scottish top-flight side, Rangers.

Poku has rejected a previous contract offer from Peterborough United earlier this season.

Kwame Poku has already turned down a new contract offer in November to stay at London Road beyond this current campaign and has set his sights on much higher glory.

The Ghanian has proven to be a shining light this season, whereas the Cambridgeshire side has fallen short of their standards, currently sitting 17th as of writing.

Predominantly playing on the right-hand side for Peterborough, Poku has picked an impressive 20 goal contributions (twelve goals and eight assists), improving already from his last campaign (eleven goals and seven assists).

This is Poku’s fourth and final campaign with Posh, having previously joined from Colchester.

Is Kwame Poku likely to fit in within a highly competitive squad such as Birmingham City?

Chris Davies‘ Blues have seemed unstoppable all season long, emphasised by their mighty home form, where the midland outfit are yet to lose at home with four games to go as of writing.

Birmingham City has typically relied upon the services of Kieran Dowell, Wilum Wilumsson, and Taylor Gradner-Hickman as their choices for the right-hand side, using a similar formation to what Peterborough uses, the 4-2-3-1.

However, it must be noted that these players are rather versatile in terms of their positioning, often being used centrally or on the left-hand side.

The Ghanaian would be a much more comfortable right-hand-sided player, though he does offer as much of a threat through the middle.

While most of the Blues’ goals have come from target man Jay Stansfield, only one of the three mentioned can boast to having ten goal contributions this season (Wilumsson).

The twenty posted by Posh’s winger could easily suggest he may elevate the team’s numbers, not to mention Poku‘s blistering pace, which has made him more of a handful this campaign.

Peterborough chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, has said on record he can’t speak highly enough of Poku and his contributions to the club, speaking on the Hard Truth’ podcast.

“Kwame won’t go to the Premier League straight away, but he will get into a high-end Championship club,

“He will be a Premier League star in the future…his next move will be £30 million.

“It will have been a pleasure to have him for four years, but he will leave with our best wishes.”

The Blues aren’t the only ones going in for Poku, as they face competition from Rangers.

It is believed that Rangers have also shown interest in bringing the Peterborough winger into their ranks.

The Glaswegian side are expected to go through many changes, with the 49ers group taking over, having already gone their separate ways with Philippe Clement in February this year.

The Light Blues have experienced a comfortable season, sitting second in the Scottish Premiership, with Hibernian only having a mathematical possibility to catch them come season’s end.

Rangers also have the alluring effect of European football on their side, which could tempt most players with only lower-league football experience.

What is the best fit for Kwame Poku heading into the new season?

Certainly, both Birmingham City and Rangers offer much for Kwame Poku, either side offering a road that could easily lead to a career of success.

The Midlands side appears to be on the rise in the English football pecking order, and it wouldn’t be a ridiculous suggestion to say they, too, may reach the heights of the Premier League in the upcoming years.

However, the Glaswegian outfit also offers an impressive pedigree of football, certainly being one of the best clubs in Scotland, with the side now regularly achieving European football, which is a greater stage for Poku to show off his talents.

Though it wouldn’t be surprising if the Ghanaian winger stays in England, Birmingham City does seem to offer a more certain path to allow Poku’s career to take off.
