Birmingham City Transfer Targets Revealed

Birmingham City have been revealed to have attempted to sign multiple players from League One rivals Peterborough United.

As many as four players were mentioned by Peterborough United’s Darragh MacAnthony when discussing Birmingham City’s transfer activity in this summer’s market. The Blues have been the busiest side in League One in the summer transfer window as they target a push for promotion immediately.

They are taking no chances with their transfer activity, boasting a far from modest budget compared to the rest of the division, and there are very few teams who have not fallen victim to the financial capabilities of the League One giants.

Birmingham City attempted Peterborough United raid.

Responding to fans on Twitter, the Posh chairman revealed that multiple members of his squad were subjects of bids from Birmingham City. Four players were confirmed to have had bids from the Blues rejected for them by MacAnthony’s side. Kwame Poku and Hector Kyprianou are two current members of the League One side that were subject to bids from Chris Davies’ side this summer.

However, two players who did move on from the club were also named as players who were of interest to the side, Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows, who both completed moves to higher divisions, also saw moves to St Andrew’s turned down by the club.

Transfer targets reveal Birmingham City’s ambitions.

Targets like Edwards and Burrows, who moved to Premier League and Championship clubs, show the ambition of the Blues, who are certainly taking no chances in their attempt at returning to the second tier following their relegation. We have seen before in this window that Chris Davies’ side have seen off competition from the divisions above for signings in the case of the capture of players such as Marc Leonard.

Despite those ambitions, it would not be transfers that would have been likely for the Blues, in the case of Edwards and Burrows, who did have interest from multiple clubs in the divisions above. Burrows eventually moved on to Sheffield United, he would have seemed more likely but Edwards was of interest to clubs who did have European football, meaning this one would have been a far shout for the side to pull off.
