Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a move for departing Solihull Moors playmaker Joe Sbarra, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has become a free agent following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign and has reportedly attracted Championship interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

How did Sbarra fair for Solihull?

Sbarra spent four years as a permanent player at Solihull Moors making over 160 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit.

During that time, Sbarra has scored over 40 goals and established himself as one of the National League’s standout players. He’s helped the Moors to reach two play-off finals as well as the FA Trophy final and scoring the clubs first ever goal at Wembley Stadium.

Unfortunately, a heart issue saw Sbarra miss the first half of the season but recovered to play a crucial role in their two finals towards the end of the campaign.

Would a move to Blackburn be beneficial for Sbarra?

The recent signing and subsequent success of full-back Harry Pickering has proven that Blackburn Rovers aren’t afraid to dive into the lower leagues in search of signing new players.

However, former teammate Andrew Dallas followed a similar path when he left Solihull Moors for League One side Barnsley but was sent out on loan almost immediately and ended up finishing the season in the National League on loan at Oldham Athletic.

Therefore, there is a strong possibility that Sbarra would be immediately loaned out by the Championship side rather than be a regular starter.

Which clubs could be a better fit?

Sbarra’s former club (Burton Albion) are likely to be in search of attacking reinforcements after clinching their survival on the final day of the season.

Similarly, there are several Midlands-based sides in League Two (Walsall, Notts County & Chesterfield) who could all offer the 25-year-old regular first-team minutes in a higher division.

Returning League Two side Carlisle United are also contenders due to them having former Solihull Moors chief scout Greg Abbott within their ranks.
