Blackburn Rovers defender Harry Pickering has agreed to extend his contract with the Championship side, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.
The 24-year-old is under contract until June 2025, but the football club have made a crucial breakthrough in their bid to fend off interest from rival sides for their talented defender.
Pickering has made 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season but is yet to contribute to a goal or an assist, despite being a regular starter for the Championship side.
The defender has been at Ewood Park since 2021, following his permanent arrival from League Two play-off hopefuls Crewe Alexandra and has become a popular figure at the club alongside the likes of Sammie Szmodics, who has also just signed a new contract with the club.
Blackburn Rovers host Leeds United in the Championship this weekend and were on a two-match unbeaten run before slipping to a shock 3-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday during their previous league outing.
The club currently occupy seventh place in the Championship, as the division approaches the half way stage of the campaign. Blackburn have won nine of their opening 19 matches and are just two points outside of the top six heading into this weekend’s round of matches.
According to Pete O’Rourke, Pickering is set to sign a new four-year contract with the Championship side, keeping him tied down until June 2028.
