John Eustace has added 32-year-old, Andreas Weimann, to his ranks as well as five other signings all made in the last two days in preparation for the start of Rovers’ Championship season in a weeks time.

Weimann spent the last six months on loan at West Brom

Journeyman forward, Andreas Weimann, will join Blackburn Rovers in order to provide John Eustace’s side with plenty of Championship, as well as Premier League, experience, amounting 338 and 113 appearances in both leagues, respectively. (TransferMarkt)

The Austrian forward, who has amassed 25 caps for his nation, is well-known for his stunning season at Bristol City in 2021/21 when Wieman scored an outstanding 22 goals as well as setting up a further 10. (TransferMarkt)

The 32-year-old failed to recapture the form he enjoyed that season, however, with six goals being his best tally since. With Weimann’s Bristol deal expiring and the forward struggling to find the back of the net, he joined West Brom on loan in January, scoring twice as The Baggies lost out to Southampton in the play-off semi-final.

John Eustace and Andreas Weimann have crossed paths before

Andreas Weimann is no stranger to Rovers’ manager, John Eustace, with the pair having played alongside each other at Vicarage Road for two seasons between 2010-2012.

It appears as though Weimann leaned on his former teammate whilst out of contract this summer as he told the club’s media channels ‘I asked if I could join in with training to keep myself fit and ticking over. I have had five sessions now with the boys and am glad to finally sign’.

Weimann credited Eustace’s kindness to letting him train, which was clearly repaid by the Austrian with his impressive training performances leading to him agreeing a deal with the club, stating:

‘When you are out of contract, it is hard. You don’t just want to run or go on the pitch by yourself and do basic drills, so it has been nice of the manager to let me join in training and meet the boys’.

Rovers have been extremely busy in the past few days

Blackburn last season survived relegation by just three points last season, with survival being almost solely inspired by the brilliance of Sammie Szmodics, whose 27 goals last season made up just under 50% of all of Blackburn’s goals scored and earned him the Championship Golden Boot. (FotMob)

The signing of Weimann will be an attempt to elevate the goalscoring pressure from Szmodics, should he stay, but there haven’t just been reinforcements in the forward line this summer…

Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Exaucé Mafoumbi as well as seasoned Championship defenders, Kyle McFadzean and Danny Batth have all been signed alongside Weimann in the last 48 hours.

Blackburn Rovers and its fans will be hoping that the recent haul of signings prior to the season will help the side steer well clear of relegation and instead shoot for towards the upper echelons of the table, as manager John Eustace has proven he can do from his start with Birmingham City last season before his surprise sacking.
