Blackpool Target Experienced Championship Winger

Blackpool kicked off their League One campaign with a home defeat to Stevenage and are now seemingly looking to continue their activity in the transfer window, as the club is being linked with an experienced Championship winger.

Steve Bruce’s side have brought in George Honeyman, Niall Ennis and Emil Hansson to strengthen in the final third of the pitch, with the first two scoring in the 3-2 opening day loss.

Blackpool Target Apter Replacement

22-year-old Rob Apter joining Charlton Athletic is a major blow to the Seasiders, with the winger proving to be a key figure last season. The fee was reported to be in the £2 million range for the player who scored eight goals and provided three assists in League One in 2024/25.

A stunning hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Stevenage in April displayed his potential. However, his departure has left a hole in the Blackpool squad as there are no senior recognised right-wingers in the squad.

Bruce opted for three at the back in the defeat to Stevenage, but it backfired and they found themselves 3-1 down five minutes into the second half. It now appears the Seasiders have found their man, an experienced right-winger with a decorated Championship career.

However, they face competition for his signature.

Former Millwall Winger Attracting Interest

Duncan Watmore is without a club, having left Millwall this summer following a spell where he scored 13 goals in 80 appearances. The 31-year-old, who once represented and scored three times for Sunderland in the Premier League, is on the lookout for his next move.

Alan Nixon (paywall) is reporting that Blackpool and Championship outfit Hull City have opened talks with the player. Watmore has spent most of his career playing in the second tier and may favour that option after proving he is still capable of performing at that level.

The winger scored five times for Millwall last season in his opening six matches, but lost his place in the side and subsequently departed after two and a half years at the club.

If Blackpool were to sign the winger, it would fill a gaping hole in their current squad and signal that they have the pull to compete with Championship outfits in the transfer window. The Seasiders travel to Exeter City next weekend for their first away outing of the new campaign.
