Blades in talks to sign former Arsenal and Liverpool star

Sheffield United are reported to be in talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on loan from Turkish side Besiktas.

The former Southampton, Liverpool and Arsenal man was said to be eyeing a move back to England and it seems he has found one with Chris Wilder’s side making the ambitious offer to take him on loan.

A look at Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career

The 30-year-old began his career at Southampton appearing 36 times before his big money move to Arsenal in 2011 where he went on to make over 100 appearances and winning multiple trophies. The midfielder then moved from Arsenal on to Liverpool where he again made over 100 appearances and was involved in winning multiple trophies including one premier league and a champions league victory for the Merseyside club. Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been capped by England from under 18 level right through to being capped 35 times at senior level.

How did he fare last season?

After making the bold move to Turkey for pastures new with Besiktas the midfielder had a mixed season for his new club. Besiktas finished sixth in the league which is below par by the club’s high standards while Oxlade-Chamberlain himself appeared 20 times scoring 4 goals.

What will the midfielder bring to the Championship side?

Having played for a multitude of big clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool and having the experience of playing at the highest level for those clubs and England he will certainly bring a wealth of experience to the championship side as they look for an immediate return to the Premier League. There has also been reports of Sander Berge potentially leaving so Oxlade-Chamberlain will also bolster the midfield options if that transfer does happen.

How has the Blades’ season began?

Sheffield United began their Championship campaign on Friday night with a 2-0 win away to Preston North End. The Blades next two fixtures are both home games at Bramall Lane against Wrexham in the EFL cup on Tuesday night and Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and they will certainly hope to have the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the line by the QPR game on Saturday.
