League One side Bolton Wanderers have not given up on their pursuit of Celtic’s Johnny Kenny, despite the forward recently penning a new deal with the Scottish giants.
According to reports from Alan Nixon, Steven Schumacher is set to make one final pursuit for their long-term target, who scored in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Livingston yesterday.
Entering the final week of the summer transfer window, any potential deal between the clubs could be expected to go down to the wire.
Bolton Wanderers to Move for Johnny Kenny
The 22-year-old has been out of favour at Celtic Park, having only made 13 appearances since joining from Shamrock Rovers in 2024.
Bolton’s pursuit of the striker has been well-documented, having had a bid rejected in recent weeks due to a gap in the two clubs’ valuations of the Irishman.
However, Kenny is clearly a top target at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, with the club willing to take their interest to the closing stages of the window.
Despite their willingness, any potential deal may prove difficult, after the former Shamrock Rovers man recently penned a new deal with his current club, committing to the club until 2029
Having failed to meet Celtic’s initial valuation of the player, any deal may be quite lucrative for the Whites.
Additionally, scoring from the bench in yesterday’s fixture may project the striker into Brendan Rodgers’ plans.
Goal-shy At Bolton Wanderers
Sitting 15th with one win, three draws, and one defeat, potency in front of goal has been a particular point of concern in the early stages of the season for Bolton.
On the back of three consecutive 1-1 draws, the likes of Mason Burstow and Sam Dalby are yet to get firing for Schumacher, and another striker is clearly on the wish-list for the remainder of the window.
Schumacher’s side have only scored twice in one League fixture this season, and were fortunate to avoid defeat against Lincoln City yesterday after an own goal from Thomas Hamer in stoppage time won Wanderers a point.
Their main target Kenny, has previously shown the ability to be a potent goalscorer, after registering 20 goals for Shamrock in 2024
While Wanderers possess quality in abundance, a goal scorer could be the difference between the Manchester outfit and the promotion places this season.
With the likes of John McAtee, Ethan Erahon and Amario Cozier-Duberry at the club, a talisman could prove a boost for the rest of Schumacher’s squad.
