Bolton Wanderers Reject Several Bids from League One Rivals

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers have a number of their star players futures up in the air with the transfer deadline approaching. Having recently rejected multiple bids for one of their star assets.

Reports earlier have stated that a deal is close between Bolton and Cyrus Christie. However, there is also action on the other end of the transfer window.

Bolton Wanderers Reject Bids from League One Rivals

According to reports from Pete O’Rourke, the League One club have recently rejected two bids for Aaron Morley.

The midfielder has been a regular feature in Wanderers’ matchday squads, but has only started two League One fixtures.

Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town are the League One sides to have recently bid for the 25-year-old, and it would not be surprising to see either club return for Morley.

Morley joined the club in January 2022 and has been largely excellent since.

Despite tallying over 130 appearances for the club, regular starts for Bolton have been limited for the last 12 months.

Falling out of favour under Ian Evatt last season, he joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan. However, a switch to Buckinghamshire saw the midfielder go back to his best.

An all-action midfielder, he was pivotal to the first half of the 2024-25 season for the Chairboys, who were challenging title winners Birmingham City at the time.

Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town Move for Morley

Due to his form in a Wycombe shirt, Bolton were quick to recall the midfielder in January.

After this loss, Wycombe largely fell away in the race for automatic promotion.

Falling short of second place and losing out to Charlton Athletic in the play-offs, the club seems determined to see their star man return to the club.

Additionally, it is no surprise to see Luton Town in the mix. Morley’s exceptional form at Adams Park can be largely attributed to the management of Matt Bloomfield, who now coaches in the Hatters’ dugout.

With Morley now playing as a backup option to Ethan Erahon, he would be more likely to receive consistent starts with the two clubs interested.

Luton seem determined to secure a midfielder before the deadline. Recent reports stated the club to have bid for Barnsley’s Adam Phillips following Tahith Chong’s departure.

The newly-relegated side appear determined to secure a midfielder with pedigree at the top end of League One.

Would the Move Work for All Parties?

A move to Luton would be beneficial for Morley. Bloomfield clearly understands how to get the best out of the midfielder, while the quality of the Hatters’ squad could see the 25-year-old flourish.

Meanwhile, he would be more than welcome back at Adams Park, with a fanbase that adored the midfielder from his short stint with the club.

However, Bolton Wanderers clearly have plans for the midfielder. With Bolton likely to persist in maintaining his services at the club, it will be interesting to see if their divisional rivals return with any follow-up bids.

Aaron Morley’s situation could certainly be one to watch as the deadline approaches. The proposition of consistent game-time with Luton and Wycombe could likely play a part in any potential move.
