Bolton Wanderers Rescue Point Despite Being Outclassed By Lincoln City

Lincoln City and Bolton Wanderers shared the points in an entertaining 1-1 draw, with both sides producing spells of control in a contest played at high intensity throughout, reports Gary Hutchinson at Sincil Bank.

The home side began brightly and threatened inside two minutes when Jack Moylan collected possession on the right, beat his marker and drove against the crossbar from distance. Bolton responded soon after, with a cross from the left looping onto the bar as both teams signalled attacking intent early on.

Lincoln continued to apply pressure during the opening exchanges. A long throw caused uncertainty in the Bolton penalty area before Moylan’s low effort was gathered by Jack Bonham. At the other end, Bolton created a series of opportunities midway through the first half. George Wickens was required to parry a Sam Dalby effort, while another delivery from the left found Dalby again, who flashed narrowly wide. Rob Apter then saw a follow-up cleared off the line by Sonny Bradley in a crucial defensive intervention.

The game developed an increasingly physical edge. Freddie Draper was cautioned for a late challenge, and several robust tackles followed as the tempo remained high. Lincoln regained control as the half progressed and took the lead on 26 minutes. A neat lay-off created space for Moylan, who opened his body and guided a composed finish into the bottom corner from just inside the area.

The remainder of the first half saw further half chances at both ends, while Bolton’s Kyle Dempsey and Dalby were both shown yellow cards before the interval. Moylan nearly added a second in stoppage time but was denied by Bonham after racing through on goal.

Bolton emerged after the break with renewed purpose. John McAtee struck wide early in the second period, and the visitors began to build momentum, urged on by a vocal travelling support. Lincoln continued to threaten from set plays and long throws, with Adam Reach volleying over from the edge of the area following a partially cleared corner.

Moylan remained influential and was involved in several promising moves. After one driving run and shot was blocked, he forced Bonham into a sharp save from close range, with Draper unable to convert the rebound. Moments later, Moylan fired narrowly wide after a headed knockdown in the box.

Lincoln created a cluster of chances midway through the second half. Rob Street saw an effort saved before striking the outside of the post after recovering possession, while Reeco Hackett tested Bonham again as the home side pressed for a second goal.

Substitutions altered the shape of the contest in the final stages, with Lincoln introducing Ben House, Tom Bayliss and Ryley Towler, and Bolton sending on Jonny Kenny and Ruben Rodrigues. As the clock ticked into the final ten minutes, the visitors found their equaliser.

On 82 minutes, Ethan Erhahon delivered a deep cross into the penalty area and Dalby rose highest to head beyond Wickens from close range, bringing Bolton level at 1-1.

Both teams pushed for a winner in a tense closing spell. A late Lincoln corner was met by Hackett, whose strike was beaten away by Bonham, while Bolton appealed for a corner in stoppage time that was not awarded.

After seven additional minutes, the referee brought an absorbing encounter to a close. Lincoln will reflect on periods of dominance and a number of clear opportunities, while Bolton demonstrated resilience to recover from behind and secure a point.
