Bolton Wanderers are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe, according to reports from Football League World.
After confirming that Nathan Baxter’s tenure at the Toughsheet Community Stadium would be coming to an end, Bolton Wanderers are on the hunt for a new number one.
And it looks like Bolton could be turning to the loan market, with Teddy Sharman-Lowe looking set for another loan move further up the football pyramid next season.
However, it appears the Whites could face competition in their pursuit, with Doncaster Rovers also interested in securing the 22-year-old’s services after an impressive loan spell with the South Yorkshire club.
Sharman-Lowe made 46 appearances for Rovers, proving crucial as Grant McCann’s side lifted the League Two title.
Bolton Wanderers in for Sharman-Lowe
A product of Chelsea’s academy, the young keeper has featured for Burton Albion, Havant and Waterlooville, and Bromley in the past.
However, he enjoyed a breakthrough season this year under Grant McCann, featuring in all of Doncaster’s league outings and keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.
This breakout campaign has also seen the Chelsea-man earn his first international call up, featuring in Lee Carsley’s England U21 squad back in March.
Securing a return to the third tier after a three-year absence, one particularly notable moment was his heroic penalty save against Bradford City, in a promotion six-pointer that saw Doncaster Rovers lift promotion.
This form has caught the eye of Schumacher, who will be looking to upgrade in net after a poor campaign by the club’s standards.
Finishing eighth in League One, defensive frailties were Bolton’s downfall in 2024-25, conceding 70 goals over the season.
Wholesale changes look set to take place in Lancashire this season, with the club’s retained list announcing the defensive departures of Nathan Baxter, Ricardo Santos, and Gethin Jones.
Bolton Wanderers to battle Doncaster Rovers
Despite interest from Bolton, Grant McCann remains keen to reunite with his goalkeeper and keep his title-winning squad together for the 2025-26 campaign.
And Rovers are not one to write off in this transfer battle, now in League One alongside Bolton while Sharman-Lowe is familiar with the club and manager.
Therefore, it would be no surprise to see the young shot-stopper back at the Eco-Power Stadium in the coming months.
While it is only the beginning of the transfer window, there could still yet be further interest to circulate the Chelsea keeper, however, it looks certain that the keeper will be playing higher up the footballing ladder next season.
