Josh Neufville has completed a sudden switch to fellow promoted club Bradford City after the wide-man played an integral role in AFC Wimbledon’s League Two play-off victory.
A product of Luton Town’s academy, the 24-year-old has worked his way up the football pyramid, having represented the likes of Yeovil Town, Sutton United, and most recently AFC Wimbledon.
The right-wing back will now get his first chance as a first-team player in League One, but not with the club he recently won promotion with.
As confirmed via Bradford’s official website, the forward has penned a three-year deal at Valley Parade, keeping him at the club until 2028.
Josh Neufville to Bradford City
The signing comes as a surprise, but a welcome one amongst Bradford City fans.
Neufville arrives at the club with numerous plaudits from the 2024-25 season, having won Player of the Year and the Player’s Player of the Year awards with AFC Wimbledon.
These awards were justified, with impressive performances on the Womble’s right-hand flank while the winger also showed to step up in big moments, scoring the only goal of his team’s second-leg victory over Notts County.
He joins a plethora of signings at Bradford City, who have not been shy in the early stages of the transfer window, having picked up Curtis Tilt, Max Power, and Sam Walker over the last few weeks.
His arrival ticks a lot of boxes for Graham Alexander’s side, who are in need of a capable runner, goal threat, and potentially youth, with the bulk of the first team in the latter stages of their careers.
Additionally, the former-Luton man offers a great level of reliability, having made a total of 56 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign.
This also offers a like-for-like replacement for Omotaye Adaramola, who impressed on loan at right-wing back as the Bantams achieved promotion.
In an interview with the club’s official website, manager Graham Alexander stated:
“After last season and seeing the scenes here, it made me hungry to sign for the club to try and replicate it.
“We are very happy to bring Josh to the club, his dynamism, power, and end product will be a great asset for us, as he showed last season in another promotion-winning team.
“We believe he also has plenty of growth in him as a young player, and we very much look forward to helping him maximize his potential.”
On signing for the club, the player said:
“I am buzzing to be here and I am hungry to get out on the pitch in front of the amazing fans and show what I can do.
“After last season and seeing the scenes here, it made me hungry to sign for the club to try and replicate it.”
A huge loss for AFC Wimbledon
Johnnie Jackson’s side boasted the best defensive record in the division by a landslide last campaign, which was an integral part of their promotion.
This showed throughout their play-off campaign, running away as 1-0 victors in all three games on the way to League One.
Having already lost star goalkeeper Owen Goodman who returned to Crystal Palace on loan, losing another key figure from their defensive set-up is bound to be a blow for the Womble’s squad.
As the South London side step up into League One, pressure will be on Jackson to replace their promotion heroes adequately, if the club are to take well to life back in the third tier.
