Bradford City Striker Set To Move to League Two Rivals

Bradford City striker Jake Young is set to move to fellow League Two side Fleetwood Town, after the Bantams revealed they had accepted an offer yesterday.

The former Forest Green Rovers and Barrow man had been heavily linked with a move this summer after questions were raised about his availability in the opening weeks. Swindon Town, Stevenage, Cheltenham Town and Carlisle United were all mentioned as potential destinations by fans, but according to Pete O’Rourke relegated Fleetwood Town have won the race.

Young was part of a potent Swindon Town attack last season, working alongside club legend Charlie Austin and now-Stevenage playmaker Dan Kemp, the 23-year-old contributed 16 goals and four assists in 26 games before being recalled by new manager Graham Alexander.

He struggled for gametime following his return to Valley Parade largely due to injury and has been absent this summer. He will leave the club having only made 18 appearances scoring four goals.

Young on the Move

For whatever reason the goal scorer has been unable to recapture his goalscoring form from Swindon Town in a Bradford City shirt. There were ‘easy to make’ links to Swindon and to Cheltenham Town where former manager Michael Flynn is currently in charge as well as an attempt by Stevenage to bring him to League One to reunite with Dan Kemp.

However staying in League Two for another year may be wise for the young talent who needs to find a home that he can thrive whilst also trying to recapture his form. Swindon isn’t the club it was last year, the players he shared an attack with and the manager are all gone and he is unlikely to just recapture what was there before.

Fleetwood have had a reasonably busy transfer window, the capture of Matty Virtue certainly raised a few eyebrows as many had expected him to stay in the third tier for another season. They sit middle of the pack after three games with one win and two draws and will be hoping that adding a more potent attacking threat could help them take home the additional two points.
