Bristol City Join Race For League Two Star

Bristol City have joined Peterborough United and several other Championship sides in the battle to sign AFC Wimbledon star Ali Al-Hamadi, according to a report via TeamTalk.

The 21-year-old has had another outstanding campaign so far for AFC Wimbledon and has attracted the interests of several Championship sides as well as Peterborough United who are eyeing up a replacement for Jonson Clarke-Harris who is expected to depart in January.

The Iraq international has made 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring 13 goals and providing an additional six assists. This means he is averaging a goal contribution every 1.2 matches.

Al-Hamadi had spells at Tranmere Rovers, Swansea City and Wycombe Wanderers in the early stages of his career before arriving at Plough Lane in January 2023. He scored ten goals in 19 appearances last season and has continued to be a reliable goal scorer so far this season.

Bristol City are under the management of Liam Manning, who is known for his success in developing young players such as Scott Twine and Harry Darling but faces strong competition from a number of sides in the Championship including Liam Rosenior’s Hull City and several others.

According to TeamTalk, Peterborough United are also pushing hard to land the forward, with a fee of approximately £1.5 million on the table from the League One side, although it would be difficult for Posh to compete financially should a Championship side launch an offer themselves.

Writer’s View

Al-Hamadi is one of the brightest, young talents in the EFL and is also a reliable goal scorer and would suit a handful of Championship sides.

As a Coventry City fan, it would shock me if the Sky Blues weren’t also interested in him given the club have recently hired Wimbledon’s head of recruitment. However, it remains to be seen as to which side have what it takes to prize the forward away from Plough Lane.
