Bristol City have signed Ireland U21 international Adam Murphy from St Patrick’s Athletic, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.
The youngster signs for an “undisclosed international training compensation fee” on a three-and-a-half-year deal with an option of a further year.
With reinforcements and extra legs needed in midfield, Bristol City have turned to the 18-year-old as the chase for the playoffs begins to heat up.
With the Robins sitting 11th in the EFL Championship and only four points from a playoff place, the young midfielder will be tasked with helping to pursue the charge up the table. As only seven points separate 5th and 14th place, it is open for anyone to claim their play-off places.
As someone who can play as a holding midfielder, box to box midfielder and is only 18 years old, he will be a great asset to Head Coach Liam Manning whilst also allowing him to grow as a player.
After making 30 apperances in the League of Ireland and getting his hands on a FAI Cup, he has great experience for such a young age. He also managed to score a goal and grab three assists for his side.
Speaking to the club website, Murphy stated…
“I’m delighted, its a huge club and a massive opportunity and I’m just looking forward to getting started.”
A huge boost for Murphy will be seeing a young player like Alex Scott come through the Bristol City ranks at such a young age and hopes he can replicate the same type of form.
Another huge fan of Murphy is Bristol City Technical Director Brian Tinnion who said:
“Adam is one of the brightest young talents in Irish football and we are delighted to sign him as he had other options offered to him.
“We are looking forward to working with Adam and seeing him progress over the next few years.”
A lot of pressure for the young lad however he will have the Bristol City faithful backing him the whole way.
Writer’s View
I think the signing is a great one for Bristol City. With him only being 18 and having such a long career ahead of him it will be easy for Liam Manning to help him adapt to the system he is starting to build.
I think it also makes sense because of the amount of games that are going to be played between now and the end of the season. Adam Murphy is more than capable of making an impact and I’m sure he will do just that.
