Bristol City Women are looking to make a statement in this window by bringing back a former Robin who has huge potential and is firmly in the plans of Sabrina Wiegman’s England going forward.
Katie Robinson started her career at City back in 2018 having come through their Academy ranks, and made her debut aged just 16. The attacker, now 23, has developed into a bright talent that missed out on being included in the Lionesses squad last summer. She was though part of the World Cup setup two years prior, where she was the youngest member of Wiegman’s runners-up roster.
Still a bright future
Despite not being capped since 2023, he has five caps to her name, this move could springboard her back on track and she will have the next World Cup in Brazil firmly in her sights, in the summer of 2027. Moving away from Bristol City was the making of her, despite being the team that helped shape her. Brighton and Hove Albion was the perfect platform to raise her game.
After making 51 appearances and scoring seven goals, she was then propelled into the spotlight at Aston Villa in 2024 on a two year deal. At the start of this season she was loaned out to Everton, and returned to her parent club after playing a dozen times for the Toffees.
Bold move
The Robins currently sit third in WSL2, and with the top two going up for the first time, this and other player acquisitions will be seen as a bold and exciting move from owners Mercury13. Having only lost four of their first 11 games of the season, they are three points behind Birmingham City who hold the second valuable promotion place. Leaders Charlton Athletic are a further five points ahead, and are currently unbeaten as we start the second half of the season. Some may see this playing WSL2 football as a backward step, after being in the World Cup just two years ago, but Robinson will be realistic, and if she can help the team that started her on the successful path she has gone down so far, then it will be viewed as a masterstroke decision by both her and City.
