Bromley Launch Bid For National League Star

Bromley

League Two new-boys Bromley have set their sights on securing one of the National League’s standout players in a bid to push closer towards a potential play-off finish this season.

Andy Woodman’s side are currently half way through their debut campaign in the EFL and find themselves in a healthy position in regards to the table coming into the January transfer window.

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Bromley have made a £150,000 bid for National League star Regan Linney from play-off chasers Altrincham.

However, this bid is likely to be rejected as Altrincham want a fee of £250,000 and will not budge on their demands.

How has he fared so far this season?

The 27-year-old arrived at Altrincham in February 2023 from FC United of Manchester and immediately made an impression under manager Phil Parkinson.

Alongside the likes of Alex Newby and Chris Conn-Clarke, Altrincham secured a play-off place in the National League last season but were defeated in the semi-finals by eventual winners Bromley.

Following Conn-Clarke’s summer exit to Peterborough, Linney has stepped up to the place and has proven to be an adequate replacement for the playmaker.

Currently, the forward has scored 14 goals in 23 league appearances during the 2024/25 campaign, whilst providing five additional assists as Altrincham sit just four points outside of the top seven.

Is he EFL ready?

Linney has spent his entire career in the Non-League scene and would represent a gamble/risk for a buying EFL side as he has never featured at that particular level.

However, in the National League he has quickly proven to be one of the best strikers in the division and is currently the second-highest goalscorer behind York City’s Ollie Pearce and two ahead of Solihull Moors’ Conor Wilkinson.

Since the end of October, Linney has scored ten goals in eight games including a hat-trick against AFC Fylde and playing a starring role as Altrincham came from 3-1 down to draw against Solihull.

Linney is currently averaging a goal every 121 minutes in the National League whilst also winning 5.8 duels and successfully completing 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes this season.

With Bromley enjoying a campaign full of goals from set pieces/headers, adding a physical presence up front like Linney could provide Andy Woodman’s side with a vital asset to push further towards the playoffs.
