Bromley are preparing for their first-ever Football League campaign and have added their most significant signing of the summer transfer by announcing the arrival of midfielder Cameron Congreve on a season-long loan from Championship side Swansea City.
The Welsh midfielder has represented his country from U15 to U21 level and the move will allow the 20-year-old to kickstart his career after finding game time limited at Swansea since graduating from the academy in the summer of 2022.
Cameron Congreve’s Progress at Swansea City has Stalled
After being awarded the Academy Player of the Year award in 2022, expectations had been high for the midfielder but it has been a frustrating time for the prospect at the Welsh Club. After making his debut for the club in March 2022, he has accumulated just 18 further senior appearances and failed to accumulate any game time in the most recent Championship campaign.
Congreve joined the Swans at a young age but has had to secure a temporary move away in search of first-team football. The left-footed academy graduate is a central midfielder who can play on the right side and in a more attacking role. He has seen his limited game time so far but his versatility has ensured he has been heavily involved with his country and this should benefit his club career.
He has played in an advanced midfield role and out wide for Wales at U21 level and impressed when representing his country at U19 in 2022, scoring braces in 4-2 wins over Finland and Croatia in the space of three months. There is a talented player here and his move to Bromley could be the catalyst to propel him to become a regular at a higher level and fulfil the promise he has shown at youth level.
Bromley Continue Active Transfer Window
Manager Andy Woodman has been in charge of Bromley since March 2021 and has admirably led the club to a couple of seventh-placed finishes and a tenth-placed finish before securing a historic promotion from the National League last season by beating Solihull Moors in the play-off final. He has been busy securing deals to ensure his squad is competitive in League Two.
They have targeted prospects and players looking to build experience in the Football League in the summer transfer window with Taylor Foran arriving from Arsenal, 21-year-old goalkeeper Sam Long from Lincoln City, experienced non-league forward Marcus Dinanga from Gateshead, Lewis Leight from Preston, Kamarl Grant on loan from Millwall and Danny Imray on loan from Crystal Palace.
Omar Sowunmi has arrived from Sutton United and has played over 100 games in the fourth tier but the arrival of Congreve is a major coup. The player has had a frustrating time breaking through at Swansea City but is a talented footballer with a high ceiling and if he can settle at the club, he could be the difference in Bromley’s bid to prevent an instant return to the National League.
